I strive to have an open, engaging and comfortable classroom environment.  To some that may look loud and chaotic, but my kids know that my class is a place to feel welcome, safe and an avid explorer in their journey of learning.  To make this a success I try to praise and reward all positive thoughts, actions and work that I see in my room.  There are times where a negative consequence is given and disciplinary action may take place. What do I use in my room to achieve this?

Clip Chart/Behavior Calendar

We have added a Behavior Clip Chart in our class.  It seems to be working really well.  The students are responding great to it.  It is immediate and gives instant feedback to the student.  You will notice the clipchart behavior sheet in the back of your child's Flower Folder.  Please check daily to see how your child's behavior was for that day.

Yort Bucks

Every student in my room starts the year with $10.  These are paper copies of fake money.  Students will continue to earn Yort Bucks (money), by turning in work, following school and classroom procedures, being a good friend, and showing life skills.  Yort bucks can also be taken away as a negative consequence.  Every 2 weeks your child will have the opportunity to spend their Yort Bucks in my classroom store or in a Reward party.  Reward parties may be movies with popcorn and drink, puzzles, games, or other activities.  If they do not have enough money at that time, they will go to study hall where they can finish work or read  books.  I have used this system for 4 years now and the kids love it.  Plus, it helps them view the value of money and how to count and take care of it.
